About the Role

Jouri is updating its pool of field researchers in Syria. Assignments cover sectors such as food security and livelihoods, health, education, WASH, shelter, and protection.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct field data collection using quantitative tools (household surveys, PDM, KAP surveys) on digital platforms such as KoboToolbox or ODK.

• Conduct qualitative data collection, including key informant interviews (KIIs) and focus group discussions (FGDs), and produce clear, accurate notes or transcripts in Arabic.

• Collect market price data on essential food and non-food items when required.

• Obtain informed consent and apply research ethics, do-no-harm principles, and data protection standards in every interaction.

• Identify, document, and promptly report protection concerns, safeguarding issues, or serious gaps observed in the field, following JRC's referral and reporting procedures.

• Take photographs as evidence where appropriate and permitted, respecting the privacy and dignity of participants.

• Ensure data quality by checking submissions for completeness and accuracy and responding to supervisor feedback.

• Participate in training, piloting of tools, and team debriefs, and share field observations that inform analysis.

• Maintain professional and respectful relationships with communities, partners, and local authorities in line with humanitarian principles.

Qualifications and Experience

• Education: Bachelor's degree in social sciences, sociology, economics, development studies, public health, or a related field. An intermediate institute diploma combined with strong relevant experience may be considered.

• Experience:

• At least three years of relevant professional experience.

• Proven experience in field data collection, monitoring, or research (quantitative and/or qualitative).

• Experience with UN agencies, international NGOs, or research firms in a humanitarian or development context is highly desirable.

• Experience facilitating KIIs and FGDs, or using KoboToolbox/ODK, is a strong asset.

• Skills and Competencies:

• Fluency in Arabic (spoken and written) is required; working knowledge of English is an asset.

• Strong communication and interviewing skills, including with vulnerable groups.

• Attention to detail and commitment to accurate, unbiased data.

• Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.

• Cultural sensitivity and strong commitment to ethical conduct, confidentiality, and safeguarding.

• Willingness and ability to travel frequently to remote and sometimes challenging locations.

Additional Requirements

• Good knowledge of, and access to, the local community in the governorate(s) where the applicant is based.

• Comfortable using a smartphone or tablet for data collection.
